Getting married abroad is a stab in the dark at the best of times however doing your own make up can not only save you a lot of money, it can also ensure that you look exactly how you want for your day. My first tip is to take into account where the big day taking place is, Is it in a hot sunny clime or a winter wonderland? Are you looking to go au natural or full on Kardashian? Either way a consultation with a make-up artist or a make-up lesson will help you look your best on your big day. A good MUA will tell you how to look after and prepare your skin in advance of your wedding and will be able to advose you on the best products to bring with you. Ideally when I look after clients in this way I like to meet them first to discuss skincare and then to do the make-up. Normally these appointments are around six months apart with a consultation by telephone in between. I recommend getting your skin in great condition first and then tackling the make-up. Every bride needs a checklist of products and here are my top ones.
Primer- Relevant to your skin type my favourite selection comes from Laura Mercier.
Foundation- Again keeping your skin type and coverage in mind. Personally I use Shiseido Perfect refining foundation, its semi matte and photographs flawlessly. Some translucent powder like Mac prep and prime over this won’t alter the colour or compromise on shine.
Mascara- Waterproof is the one pre requisite for your wedding day, I love Estee Lauders Double –wear.
Blusher- Keep it soft and Matte, Mac do fabulous tones that suit all skins. Think delicate apricots and blushing pink.
Eye shadow- Muted Matte browns and soft dove greys work best on brides. It’s best to avoid white or pearl shades under the brow bone as they don’t photograph well.
Highlighter- a nice powder applied with a fluffy small headed brush looks great.
Gel liner- Bobbi Brown in Brown or Black, these glide on and stay all day through heat and emotion.
Fixing spray- Clarins fix make up, this concludes the routine and keeps your make up fresh all day!
