I’ve been investing a little in the home side of things the past few weeks both from a time and money perspective. Our bedroom had gotten a bit tired find the spare rooms needed freshening up. Not having a big budget meant poor Mr G was put to work painting and papering. Truth be told we bought the wallpaper for both bedrooms 18 months ago and we both kinda let it slide. Eventually we got around to getting curtains etc And so we both agreed it was time to get stuck in. Mr G on the hard labour and me on the inspiration and shopping. So I did a lot of moving around of soft furnishings and cushions as well as mirrors and paintings. I think one of my dream jobs would be working in an interiors shop. I love ourhome. It’s small but perfect for our needs as a twosome. We have guests over to stay so it’s nice to offer then a nice room to lay their heads after the inevitable glass or two of wine and dinner. Nobody leaves here without being fed!!!!
The spare room actually used to be my bedroom as a child that I shared with my sister. We had two single beds and a locker.
I didn’t change any of the furniture in the room for this room make over. The bed was an old one bought around 20 years ago in Brown Thomas when they sold them. The mattress has been changed since. The locker was a pine one from B and Q that I sanded and painted and changed the knob on. The dresser my sister gave me as a housewarming gift 11 years ago with the mirror to match. I have resprayed these. They were an off white but I wanted cream. I may repaint them again to match the woodwork I will see.
The curtains are from Home Focus , I bought these last year as well as the bed linen which is from Dunnes. It’s 200 thread count and perfect for a spare room. It’s worth noting that the mattress isn’t that deep so I can buy the bed linen anywhere for this bed.
The wallpaper is from B and Q too and they still have it Instock.
The baskets I always make up have little essentials in them for guests. They are around a fiver. All in all it cost around €500 to do however I have been spending it gradually so it didn’t really feel like that much. The cushions I bought in Ez living and the covers in various places. I have a fear of flat cushions. So always buy goose ones.
This blog is moving gently towards a lifestyle one I think with recent cooking and gym posts. It’s an adventure.
My mother always said that you’d never have a bob when you have a house and I’m now starting to see why. I’d love to change the carpet too as cream is impractical ….. Maybe next time
