Lingerie or Full Coverage?

Lipstick trends are extreme for the coming months, with matte nudes and vibrant reds a big thing for summer. Ombre-style lips feature heavily across all the bigger brands too.

Here are some reviews of the lipsticks I have tried in recent times; as well as some top tips for luscious lips and creating a long wear look that won’t crumble, or dry out, your lips. The primary thing is to start with nice hydrated lips and then the product will apply with no issues.

Every day, a nice balm should be applied morning and evening. Incorporate it into your daily routine and use an appropriate product.

The area surrounding the lips is as delicate as the eye area so, if you are having hair removal, opt for threading. If you have lines around the lips, then micro needling may be of benefit.

IDC, a Canadian brand new to our shores, has launched a serum with 16 active ingredients to help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and it is a targeting treatment, meaning it can be used on just one area to achieve results. It works well on those fine lines smokers get around the lips or indeed, to ones I am bound to get from all the pouting! It’s available from www idcdermo.ie

The lip itself will benefit from an SPF and pharmacy brand Uriage offer the handiest lip product ever, containing SPF 30, perfect as the weather hopefully gets warmer. The stick is easy to apply on the go and gives just the right amount of moisturiser without being sticky. Available from pharmacies, and at under €8, it won’t break the bank either.

Exfoliate your lips once a week with an old soft toothbrush to slough away dead skin.

As a long-haired girl, gloss is something I wear poolside, only when my hair is tied up and out of harm’s way, I may, however, need to make an exception because Essence just launched its ‘Gloss Gloss Gloss’ line which had vibrant glossy hues, my favourite being ‘Siren in Scarlet’ and at under €4, you can update your makeup bag with more than one.

For a more nude approach, try NYX lip lingerie, a better quality and long-lasting liquid lipstick that rivals the Kylie Lip Kit for me any day. Ruffle Trim is my go-to brown nude shade and it looks fantastic with a tan and a great smoky eye. If a lighter shade suits you more, then try ‘Push Up’ which is more a peachy nude which will suite a paler skin. These are €9 each and are available in larger Boots stores and online.

If you prefer a cooler shade, the Isa Dora Cool Mauve liquid lipstick offers you a sheer wash of matte colour. The tones are perfect for spring and they last extremely well. These shades are perfect for the daytime of a wedding. They don’t dry your lips and are sheer and pretty. Available from O’Sullivan’s Pharmacies. The two best nude liners on the market are ‘Boldly Bare’ by Mac and Boots No7 Automatic lip liner in ‘Nude’. They are both versatile and long-wearing.

Of course, with all longwear products, you must find a suitable remover. Thalgo Express eye and lip remover is a marine-based remover designed especially for waterproof formulas. Soak a cotton disc in the remover and sweep over the lips. Add a second disc to get rid of any residue.

It is available in Thalgo salons for €22, a little goes a long way and it doesn’t sting the eyes either. Love your lips and they will love you back xxxxx

Red lips are my signature look, they can take a dull bad makeup day and catapult it to dramatic heights of glamour. They are a massive trend for the summer and look amazing with navy or white. NYX Full Throttle Matte lipstick in ‘Up the Base’ is the perfect cool toned red to keep your teeth looking white. The skinny shape means that you can contour your lip perfectly and, as the formula is waterproof, it should stay in place for the evening.
