Let’s talk redness. Not the “just did a workout” flush or the “glass of wine with dinner” glow—I’m talking about that persistent, hot-cheeked, tight-feeling kind of redness that just won’t take the hint. Yep, I’m talking about rosacea, and as a long-time sufferer (and skincare nerd), I know just how frustrating it can be.
April is Rosacea Awareness Month, so there’s no better time to share a little love for some of my favourite Skingredients products that have helped me hugely in managing my flare-ups. And you don’t have to be diagnosed with rosacea to benefit—if your skin tends to go red, reactive, or generally dramatic, keep reading.
First things first: What is rosacea?
According to the National Rosacea Society (and our own skincare queen, Jennifer Rock, CEO of Skingredients), rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that affects over 415 million people worldwide, including around 10% of Irish adults. It’s sometimes called the Curse of the Celts (charming), and while there’s no cure, it can be managed—with a bit of savvy skincare and medical advice.
Now, I’ll be honest—finding products that don’t sting, strip, or trigger my redness is a minefield. So when I find a lineup that works, I shout it from the rooftops (or at least, the blog).
Step One: Gentle Does It – Skingredients PreProbiotic Cleanse (€29)
If there’s one rule I never break, it’s “do not strip the skin.” This hydrating, non-foaming cleanser is an absolute dream. It’s creamy, gentle, and full of skin-loving ingredients like oligosaccharide (a calming prebiotic) and lactobacillus (a probiotic) that help support your skin’s microbiome—the good bacteria that keeps things balanced.
It also contains a whisper of gluconolactone, a polyhydroxy acid that very gently exfoliates without irritating. I use this morning and night—it’s like giving my skin a calm cuddle in a bottle.
Step Two: Soothe & Plump – Skingredients Skin Veg Hyaluronic Acid Serum (€55)
Oh hello, hydration! This is one of those products I didn’t know I needed until I tried it—and now I’d never be without it. Not only does it quench the skin with hyaluronic acid, but it also features aloe vera extract, which is known for being both anti-inflammatory and healing (my two favourite words when my skin’s playing up).
I press it onto damp skin right after cleansing and before moisturiser. It helps take down redness and gives me that healthy, juicy look without any greasiness.
Don’t Forget SPF – Seriously
Here’s the deal: 81% of rosacea sufferers report flare-ups after sun exposure. And I can 100% back that up—UV rays are not your friend when you have sensitive skin. That’s why I wear SPF every single day, even if it’s raining (because, let’s face it, we’re in Ireland).
Skingredients have SPF options that work really well, but whatever you do—make sure it’s broad spectrum, at least SPF 30, and non-irritating.
Add a Barrier Balm
When my skin’s feeling extra sore or dry, I reach for a barrier-repairing balm. These are like skincare security blankets—they lock in moisture, soothe irritation, and help protect your skin from environmental triggers. Honestly, they’ve saved my skin more times than I can count.
Glamity Jane’s Redness Recap:
Rosacea can’t be cured, but it can be managed Gentle, non-stripping skincare is key Prebiotics + probiotics = happy skin Hydration and sun protection are non-negotiables When in doubt, keep it simple and kind
If you suspect you have rosacea, please do check in with your GP or dermatologist. Skincare helps—but getting a proper diagnosis is the most empowering first step you can take.
So this April, let’s show our skin some kindness. Whether you’re dealing with full-blown rosacea or just the occasional flare-up, Skingredients has your back—and so do I.
Stay glowing (and calm),
Glamity Jane
