Budget Beauties

Payday is still a week away and with that in mind I wanted to show you some pretty budget buys to help beat the January blues.

Matt lipsticks have become a staple in all of our make up bags and one of the best stain / colour combo comes from Wet’nWild and their liquid catsuit. A liner is essential with these as the pigment is so strong it’s almost like a lip paint. You can wear them alone or under a gloss. They offer comfort and long wear. Nudist Peach ( pictured) is a nice warm nude peach that is handy for bringing your make up bag into spring. Another product well worth the investment is the Mega Glow Highlighters . Offering what call a soft focus metallic finish to the skin , they act really well as a tear duct pop of glow too. Avoid if you’re very lined around the face though as the finish may look quite harsh and sit in lines or pores. This isn’t exclusive to this brand it happens across the board.

Lashes are an expensive hobby if like me you wear them every day but I do find that they open my eyes and finish the eye make up look with a glam touch. They can help you look less tired also but I do find a lighter lash with a thinner band works best. I always use Duo glue to apply them as I find this easy to use and won’t pull on the Lashes they just peel off.

The Primark (Penneys) own brand Lashes are only €1.50 and the Wispies are the ones I wear the most these days. The glue that comes with them is quite strong so I would recommend having some Duo on the side. The latest addition to the eye range is pigment and honestly you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between this €3 brand and some of the more expensive ones. Pictured is the colour Mink Pink which is a great dupe for Inglot 119.

The nude liner in Foxy Nude is a nice little addition for €1.50, I have bought quite a few of these in recent times to keep in my desk at work for emergencies. I also for €2.50 decided ya pick up the cotton bud holder which looks good on a dresser and is really practical.

Lastly is the PHr range designed for working out. The range has everything you need for a basic base. Now here is the thing I don’t really condone the concept of working out wearing make up but the mascara is quite good €2.50 and waterproof , and isn’t going to affect your skin. The other products like the highlighter stick is nice for an non glittery highlight, just apply with a synthetic brush and less is more because of the cream consistency. I think oddly women that are Menopausal mag like this range as it’s sweat proof . Penneys are as a brand always striving to improve their range and I have to say in recent times the colour /makeup range has really improved. The bits above are ones I liked and used. I think their brushes are great too and better than some of the bigger brands. They have a no frills approach and I like that.

My only bugbear is that you can’t get Wet n Wild products anymore in Penneys. It’s one of my favourite budget brands and it was so handy picking the bits I wear regularly there.

Happy Sunday and let me know if you try any of my recommendations. X

Ladies Lunch in Aid of Chernobyl at the Bodega- 26th April

When I was asked to make up the models for this lunch I didn’t hestitate but to say yes for two reasons firstly was the obvious fantastic charity that is Adi Roches Chernobyl Children and secondly because I so like a nice lunch.

My first model arrived bang on time to Sobe Brown, I haven’t worked with Lockdown a whole lot but when I do they are always on time. I like this it keeps everything running smoothly as possible. The models are always  chatty animated and obedient. Obidient is a funny word to use I know but when under time constraints its important that they take direction. Two of the gals went ti BT to Ann at Shiseido and I tackled the other 5. The brief given by Nicola was a .daytime natural and a strong lip. I added some subtle lashes too. Joanne Dawson from Joannes Beauty rooms in Glanmire came ot give me a hand with prepping the models skin and finishing with lashes and mascara. I am after all one woman!

KT who is Sobes latest recruit looked after the hair. She sis a sleek pony with a lot of texture. For Pat who has a Monroe type bob she sleeked the look up!

Once the models were done I hot footed over to do Amanda Brunkers make up. She had made a start already as her schedule was so tight. I can honestly say she was the funniest person I have every done make up on. We had plenty of Banter and i showed her the way to the Bodega and headed off to do my own make u,an arduous task after just doing up one of Ireland’s most gorgeous women. She denies it buy we know it!

Sweet Mother of god I had the biggest wardrobe Malfunction ever had to go home and get changed after getting my Mop sorted by KT.

The lunch was superb, the Prosecco even better and the fashion unrealI have been to lots of big lunches where the food lets the venue down but this was not the case here at all. There was enough food and it was piping hot as well as tasty.

Amanda rocked the MCing, Emer from Lockdown Models did a great job of talking us through the clothes AND THE MODELS WERE CARRYING BAGS FROM THE SHOPS. Brillo! Verso,The Dress Bar, Ernest Perryman and Christine Butler Millinery were the ones that stood out for me.  The hats were amazing but wearable. The models looked superb and to me Pat Walker always lights up the Catwalk. Simone Butler a young girl just blows me away everytime I see her. She has an inbuilt ability to judge what the Audience want. I love her! If I ever create a fashion or make up line she is who I would hire. In an instant.

Adi Roche gave a heartfelt speech about Chernobyl and how 27 years later the people and children in the area are still being affected by the repercussions of that fateful April 26th.Looking at the smiles of the children through adversity, at the love and care given to them thanks to the Irish people was heartwarming. Adi does great work and is really such an amazing eloquent spokesperson for what is a really tough subject. Nobody like seeing poeple suffer but especially hard to watch are children. I will carry a little piece of Chernobyl in my heart forever.

After lunch the Roaring 40’s gave a super performance and the night carried on from there (for some of us a second meal and a few G and Ts). I won’t name any names but a gang of us ended up having a right laugh in the Ambassador Chinese.

Photos to follow!

Going out!

So gals how long does it take you to get ready for a night out? For me it depends on who I am going out with and when. I love the process usually a glass of wine and one my my girlfriends call over and the process starts. Because I am a make up artist I always get asked to do the make up … So usually I get bribed with a glass of fizz. I always do the other persons hair and make up first this takes around and hour. My own make up takes a half hour and for hair it’s almost always done for me! Cheesy music is the order of the day. Heels on out the door! Simples.
